PIERCETON – The championship game of the Town & Country 10-U baseball semi-state tournament held at the Pierceton youth league ball diamonds pitted towns familiar with one another.

Nappanee, unbeaten in its run to the final, took on a once-beaten Plymouth team Monday night in the title tilt. Plymouth gave the home team a run for its money, scoring two runs right off the bat, only for Nappanee to respond and keep answering the bell in a 12-7 victory.

Nappanee scored four runs in the second inning and broke a 4-4 tie in the fourth inning wide open with eight big runs, highlighted by a pair of two-run singles. A snare at third base by Plymouth’s Owen Bockman off the bat of Cooper Wiens kept Plymouth alive and left the Nappanee bases loaded in the huge inning.

Plymouth would keep it close with three runs in the fifth but could draw no closer as Nappanee closed out the sixth to finish 4-0 in the semi-state tournament. The Wolfpack will move to the Flora state tournament next week, as will Plymouth after qualifying with its showing in Pierceton.

The 12-U Town & Country baseball state tournament will be held in Pierceton this coming weekend.
